Zagreb, 6 November 2019 – This year’s MEETING G2 – Building Business Bridges, organized with the objective of connecting Croats at home and abroad, was held from 4 to 6 November 2019 in Zagreb. The conference gathered over 200 participants, including 70 successful businesspersons of Croatian descent from abroad. As part of the extensive program, the Canadian-Croatian Business Network (CCBN) participated in a panel where those in attendance could learn about some of the successes and challenges faced by Croatian entrepreneurs.

Joe Bašić, President of the Canadian-Croatian Business Network, presented the organization’s work and successes at the Conference. Namely, over the past nine years, since the founding of the CCBN, trade between Canada and Croatia has increased by more than fivefold – from 127 million HRK to 635 million HRK in the 2010-2019 period. Thereby, Croatia has become Canada’s main trading partner in South East Europe.

CCBN members are prominent and successful business persons, experts and entrepreneurs living and working in Croatia, who have direct work experience from Canada. This experience allows them to truly understand the obstacles that may arise, and also ensures the expertise and knowledge to overcome these barriers in order to succeed. I believe that there will be further growth in trade, especially due to the signed CETA agreement (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) that eliminates trade barriers in numerous sectors”, said Joe Bašić.

Participating in the panel along with Joe Bašić were members of the CCBN’s Executive Board, Dennis Rukavina (Maverick Partners), John Gašparac (PWC), Adrian Beljo (Edward Bernays University College) and Mark Mocnaj (CCBN). They spoke about concrete, successful examples of cooperation, specific features of doing business in Croatia and offered their thoughts on how to help entrepreneurs from both countries to improve cooperation.

As with all previous editions, the conference was organized under the high auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, who opened the Conference.
